Position Summary
The Maintenance Technician I provides entry-level support for the maintenance and upkeep of campus buildings, grounds, and facilities. This position performs routine maintenance tasks, assists with repairs, and helps ensure a safe, clean, and functional environment for students, employees, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform basic maintenance and repair tasks in areas such as plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general building upkeep.
- Assist with preventative maintenance for campus facilities, equipment, and systems.
- Respond to maintenance work orders and complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.
- Support building inspections and report maintenance issues or safety concerns.
- Assist with moving furniture, equipment setup, and campus event preparations as needed.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and maintenance areas in a clean and organized condition.
- Perform minor repairs such as replacing light bulbs, fixing door hardware, unclogging drains, and patching walls.
- Assist with seasonal maintenance activities such as snow removal, grounds cleanup, and minor landscaping tasks.
- Follow all safety procedures and institutional policies while performing duties.
- Work collaboratively with other maintenance staff and departments to support campus operations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Basic knowledge of general maintenance practices and tools.
- Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, climbing ladders, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Willingness to learn maintenance skills and follow instructions from supervisors.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Valid driver’s license may be required depending on institutional needs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in facilities, maintenance, construction, or a related field.
- Basic familiarity with hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment.
