Bluefield University Names Incoming Student as Full-Tuition Scholarship Winner

by | Apr 1, 2025

BLUEFIELD, Va. — Sophie Hall of Bluefield, Virginia has been named the 2025 recipient of Bluefield University’s Presidential Scholarship. The full-tuition award is presented annually to incoming freshmen demonstrating academic achievement, leadership, and character.

Hall, a senior at Bluefield High School and the daughter of Justin and Jessica Hall, plans to major in criminal justice. She said she looks forward to joining the university’s close-knit, family-oriented community and participating in athletics, including the golf and softball teams.

The Presidential Scholarship competition was held on campus on February 8, 2025. University faculty reviewed essays, conducted interviews, and evaluated candidates’ academic resumes and personal character.

“This scholarship is a chance for us to recognize some of the most talented, high-achieving students and provide them with a private Christian education at no cost,” said Dr. Steve Peterson, president of Bluefield University.

Vice President for Enrollment Management and Marketing Travis Roberts says the competition also highlights the university’s affordability. “Even students who do not receive the full-tuition scholarship often discover how accessible a Bluefield education can be,” Roberts said. “We’re offering a range of scholarships and discounts that can save students $10,000-$14,000 per year — before any state or federal aid is applied.”

The Presidential Scholarship is renewable for up to four years. It reflects Bluefield University’s mission to make private Christian higher education accessible and affordable.
