POSITION SUMMARY
The Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming campus environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This position supports the mission of Bluefield University by ensuring that classrooms, offices, restrooms, residence halls, and common areas are maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness and safety.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform general cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and disinfecting surfaces.
- Clean and sanitize restrooms, replenish supplies, and ensure proper sanitation standards.
- Empty trash and recycling receptacles and transport waste to designated collection areas.
- Maintain assigned areas such as classrooms, residence halls, offices, and public spaces.
- Operate cleaning equipment safely and report maintenance or repair needs.
- Monitor inventory of cleaning supplies and request replenishment as needed.
- Respond to special cleaning assignments, campus events, and seasonal needs.
- Follow university safety protocols, including handling chemicals and equipment properly.
- Provide courteous and professional service to campus community members.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Prior custodial/housekeeping experience helpful but not required; training will be provided.
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for long periods, and perform repetitive tasks.
- Dependable, self-motivated, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
- Commitment to maintaining a clean and safe environment for the university community.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Full-time, non-exempt position.
- Scheduled hours may include evenings, weekends, or special events as assigned.
- Work performed indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
This position is subject to at least an annual evaluation based upon the job duties, responsibilities, and functions as set forth above.
