Emily Hirschbock was named a Presidential Scholar by Bluefield University at the scholarship competition on Saturday, February 21, 2026. As one of two honorees, Emily was offered a full-tuition award renewable for up to four years.
Emily resides in Centreville, Maryland, where she attends Queen Anne’s County High School. She has completed courses in her school’s Advanced Placement program, as well as Chesapeake College’s dual enrollment program. When she comes to BU this fall, she plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Psychology & Human Services while playing softball.
At her high school, Emily is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Interact clubs. She also competes with the varsity cross country, indoor track, and softball teams. She works in the Queen Anne’s County Active Aging Department, and her volunteer work includes service at a county senior center, as well as assisting with community events like Bay Bats pitching lessons and a UQA Wrestling tournament.
Those who recommended Emily described her as conscientious, intelligent, and inquisitive. They commended her work ethic and thoughtfulness.
BU’s Presidential Scholarship recognizes exceptional academic achievement, leadership, and character. Incoming freshmen may compete for the award by submitting an essay, two letters of recommendation, and an academic resume. These students then participate in an on-campus interview, where they may be selected as one of two annual honorees.
