Bluefield University’s Dome Gymnasium is set for a major renovation after the university secured $200,000 in early gifts toward a $475,000 fundraising campaign.
The project has already received significant early support, including a $150,000 matching grant from the Hugh I. Shott Jr. Foundation and a $50,000 leadership gift from the June O. Shott Foundation.
“For nearly 60 years, the Dome has brought people together for competition, celebration, and connection,” said University President Dr. Steve Peterson. “Renovating this facility reflects our commitment to both student success and the broader community we serve.”
Since opening in 1968, the Dome Gymnasium has served as a hub for collegiate athletics, community events, and summer camps. The facility is home to Bluefield University’s basketball and volleyball programs and remains one of the most recognizable structures on campus.
Gifts to the Dome Renovation campaign will support significant upgrades to the facility, including restoration of the roof, renovations to restrooms, fresh paint, and the replacement of bleachers, windows, and doors.
“Upgrading the Dome Gymnasium is an investment in the future of Bluefield University Athletics,” said Corey Mullins, Vice President for Student Development & Athletics. “These improvements will allow us to better serve our teams, our fans, and the many visitors who step onto our campus each year.”
“We are deeply grateful for the generosity of the Hugh I. Shott Jr. Foundation and the June O. Shott Foundation,” said Bryan Worrall, Vice President for Advancement. “Their support gives this project strong momentum and invites others to confidently partner with us in strengthening a cornerstone of our campus.”
