Position Summary:
Bluefield University is seeking a skilled and reliable Building and Grounds Technician to assist with the maintenance, repair, and functionality of campus buildings, grounds, and equipment. This position is crucial for ensuring a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with practical experience in various maintenance tasks and a dedication to the mission of a Christ-centered institution of higher education.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform general maintenance and repair of campus facilities, including but not limited to plumbing, carpentry, electrical, HVAC, and painting tasks.
- Respond to work orders and service requests in a timely and professional manner.
- Conduct routine inspections of buildings and grounds to identify maintenance needs or safety concerns.
- Assist with event setup, furniture moving, and facility preparations as needed.
- Participate in seasonal maintenance activities, including snow removal, lawn care, and leaf cleanup.
- Operate and maintain tools and equipment safely and efficiently.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of maintenance areas and supply storage.
- Work collaboratively with other facilities staff and departments to support University operations.
- Follow all University safety protocols and participate in regular training as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities and Operations.
Qualifications:
Required:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Experience in general maintenance or a related field.
- Basic knowledge and skills in plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and groundskeeping.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull objects up to 50 pounds.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Willingness to work occasional evenings or weekends for emergency repairs or special events.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred:
- Certification or vocational training in building trades.
- Experience working in an educational or institutional setting.
- Familiarity with work order management systems.
Performance Standards
This position is subject to at least an annual evaluation based upon the job duties, responsibilities, and functions as set forth above.
