Student Facilities Assistant (Summer)

Position Summary

The Summer Facilities Assistant provides support to the Facilities Management team in maintaining a safe, functional, and well-presented campus environment during the summer term. This position assists with residence hall turnover, campus improvement projects, event support, and general maintenance duties to ensure campus readiness for summer programs and the upcoming academic year.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with moving, assembling, and arranging furniture for residence halls, classrooms, offices, and campus events.
  • Support residence hall turnover, including room preparation, inspections, cleaning assistance, and basic repairs.
  • Perform general maintenance tasks such as painting, cleaning, pressure washing, and minor repairs.
  • Assist with event setup and breakdown, including tables, chairs, staging, and equipment placement.
  • Support campus improvement and beautification projects.
  • Assist with grounds support, including trash removal, debris cleanup, and light landscaping tasks.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of maintenance shops, storage areas, and equipment.
  • Follow all safety procedures, proper tool usage guidelines, and university policies.
  • Work collaboratively with full-time facilities staff and other student team members.
  • Complete assigned tasks efficiently and within established timelines.

Qualifications

  • Current Bluefield University student or eligible student employee.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including bending, standing, climbing, and walking for extended periods.
  • Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to assist with a variety of tasks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous facilities, maintenance, construction, landscaping, or campus work experience (preferred but not required).
  • Basic familiarity with hand tools and general maintenance practices.

Work Environment

Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. This position involves physical labor and requires adherence to all safety standards.
