Bluefield University Theatre to Present White Christmas

Bluefield University Theatre and Bluefield Youth Theatre will present the holiday classic, Irving Berlin’s White Christmas, December 14-16 at 7:30 p.m. and December 17 at 3:00 p.m. in Harman Auditorium on the campus of Bluefield University. Advance reservations are $10 for adults and $5 for senior adults and students. Tickets at the door are $15 and $10. Reservations are available at https://our.show/whitexmas.

The stage play is based on Michael Curtiz’s 1954 movie White Christmas featuring Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney and Vera-Ellen. The stage adaptation was written by David Ives and Paul Blake. Music and lyrics for the movie and stage play are all by Irving Berlin, one of the greatest songwriters of the American theatre. The musical features such Berlin favorites as “Blue Skies,” “Snow,” “Happy Holidays,” “I Have My Love to Keep Me Warm,” and of course the title song, “I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas.”

The Bluefield Youth Theatre production features Finn Smith as Bob Wallace (played in the film by Bing Crosby) and Miles Munique as Phil Davis (Danny Kaye). Betty Haynes is played by Bluefield University student Grace Trent while her sister Judy is played by Mercer Christian Academy student Isabella Deel. General Waverly is played by BU theatre graduate Brian Fisher. The role of Martha Watson is played by BU theatre freshmen Elei Haynes. General Waverly’s granddaughter Susan is played by MCA student Ryleigh Lingenfelter.

Other cast members include Blaire Anderson, Lily Auton. Gavin Bolton, Aeryonna Bowling, Jaysen Branham, Elsie Buckland, Ashley Burton, Matthew Counts, Caleb Cumbow, Micah Deel, Catherine Dixon, Deacon Goins, Bethany Goins, Teddi Groseclose, Ariel Haynes, Laura Horton, Cadence Laine, Ian Matullo, Levi Mullins, Faith Shrader, Cannon Smith, Jordan Stafford, Caleb Stauffer, Kate Thyng, Andy Vaughn, Ellie Whitaker, Callie Wilkinson, Bear Woodard, and Leif Young.

The production is directed by Bluefield University theatre faculty Charles M. Reese and Rebecca McCoy-Reese. The choreography is by Abigail McComas with Ashley Rose Burton. Music direction is by Laura Horton. Costume design is by Brian Fisher.

“This is such a Christmas classic! I think our audiences are going to have a great time. The music is beautiful, the dances are lots of fun, and it’s just so heartwarming. The cast has done a great job,” said director Reese. “We encourage everybody to make this a part of your Christmas celebration!”
