The Bluefield Promise
A Christ-centered education should be both meaningful and attainable.
That belief is at the heart of the Bluefield Promise, a new initiative beginning with the Fall 2026 entering class that helps make Bluefield University more affordable for qualifying Virginia undergraduate students.
Through the Bluefield Promise, eligible Virginia residential, on-campus students can receive institutional aid to cover remaining tuition costs after applicable federal and state grants are awarded. The goal is simple: to give students and families a clearer understanding of cost and a more direct path to enrollment.
What is the Bluefield Promise?
The Bluefield Promise is Bluefield University’s commitment to helping qualifying Virginia students make a private college education more affordable.
For eligible students, Bluefield University will provide institutional aid to cover remaining tuition charges after applicable grant aid is applied. For many families, that means tuition may be significantly reduced. For some qualifying students, tuition may be fully covered.
How it works
Students may qualify for the Bluefield Promise if they:
- Are a Virginia resident
- Are eligible for the Virginia Tuition Assistance Grant (VTAG)
- Are eligible for the full Federal Pell Grant
- Enroll as a full-time residential undergraduate student
Eligibility is determined based on FAFSA results and other verified financial aid information. Federal and state grant aid is applied first. Bluefield University then provides institutional aid to cover the remaining balance of students’ tuition.
- Housing
- Meals
- Student fees
- Books and supplies
- Personal expenses
- Transportation
Students and families may still use federal student loans, payment plans, and other available aid options to help with those costs. Eligibility is based on verified financial aid information, including FAFSA results and applicable state grant eligibility. Institutional funding is applied as a last-dollar tuition benefit for qualifying students. Award amounts may vary based on individual eligibility and available aid sources.

Each year, Bluefield University awards more than $6 million in scholarships to help make a private Christian education more affordable.
The Bluefield Promise builds on that commitment by creating a simpler, clearer way for qualifying Virginia students to understand what their tuition may cost after aid is applied.
Bluefield University is also continuing to invest in the student experience. The university recently upgraded Alumni Hall through generous donor support and local investment, and this summer is undertaking a $3 million residence hall improvement project to further enhance campus life.
Student Life
Through internships and hands-on projects, I gained the skills and confidence I needed to step into my career in communications. Bluefield prepared me in ways I never expected, and I’m so grateful for the relationships and experiences that continue to shape me today.
One of the best parts of the program is how hands-on everything is. We get to work on real-world projects and simulations, which makes it feel like I’m already preparing for my future career. I’ve also had chances to intern and network, which is really exciting. I’m so glad I chose Bluefield—it’s been an awesome experience so far, and I can’t wait to see what’s next!
One of the most rewarding aspects of my job is helping students discover their strengths and guiding them to use those strengths to their advantage. Watching a student gain confidence and realize their potential is an incredible moment. It’s these kinds of breakthroughs that remind me why I’m so passionate about what I do.
Bluefield University is truly a place where everyone works together to ensure students succeed. It’s more than just a campus; it’s a community that cares, and I’m grateful to contribute to that mission every day.
