Bluefield University mourns the loss of Dr. Daniel MacMillan, whose service as Bluefield’s eighth President from 1997 until 2005 shaped a pivotal time in the institution’s history.
Dr. MacMillan’s leadership was marked by prayerful decision-making and dependence on God. Throughout his tenure, he worked to refocus the institution on Christ and equip students with a Christian worldview. Additionally, he oversaw extensive fundraising, improvements to campus facilities, and expansions to academic program offerings. During Dr. MacMillan’s time as President, community engagement, alumni support, and endowment growth increased significantly.
In the words of Bluefield College historian Rev. David Armbrister, “Dr. Mac left behind a legacy of good leadership, heartfelt in all respects, and a strong Christian foundation upon which a new president can build.”
Bluefield University is grateful for Dr. Dan MacMillan’s legacy and extends our thoughts and prayers to his loved ones.
