Then, you don’t want to miss Bluefield College’s Scholarship Auction, Saturday, October 22 at 9 a.m. in Harman Chapel where dozens of products will be up for auction, and where proceeds from the event go to support the BC Fund for Scholarships, a vital source of financial aid for BC students.
The Bluefield College Scholarship Auction began in the fall of 2000 as part of the school’s annual Homecoming festivities and for the purpose of raising funds for student scholarships. Auctioneers from Regency Real Estate and Auction Company donated their time and talents to manage the bidding affair in years past, and in recent years Twin City Auctions’ Eric Crawford has served as the live auctioneer.
Among the items up for sale this year will be vacation getaways, entertainment packages, hotel stays, museum passes, golf certificates, and zoo passes. Other items include photography, artwork, arts and crafts, Lenox figurines, books, jewelry, perfume and purses, along with sports tickets and memorabilia, and Bluefield College apparel, artwork and collectables.
Specifically, some of the marquee items on the auction list are a one-week vacation timeshare to anywhere in the United States or worldwide, a one-week Massanutten timeshare, and passes to Disney World in Orlando, Florida.
Other vacation and entertainment packages up for bid include passes to Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee; tickets to Grandfather Mountain and Tweetsie Railroad in North Carolina; and tickets to the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina.
Fine arts enthusiasts will have the opportunity to bid on tickets to Barter Theatre in Abingdon, Virginia; tickets to performances at the Chuck Mathena Center in Princeton, West Virginia; and season passes to the Fiddlers’ Convention in Galax, Virginia.
History buffs may find interest in passes to the Berkeley Plantation in Charles City, Virginia, and tickets to Crab Orchard Museum in Tazewell, Virginia, while outdoor enthusiasts can bid on lift tickets at Snowshoe Ski Resort in West Virginia and Winterplace Ski Resort in Ghent, West Virginia.
Among the other signature items in the auction: autographed memorabilia from NASCAR’s Kevin Harvick; autographed Charlie Daniels music and memorabilia, gift certificates to Cuz’s restaurant in Tazewell, Virginia; season tickets for the Bluefield Blue Jays; Hal Brainerd photography; and tables, sideboards and other furniture from Bassett Furniture in Virginia — all made possible through the generosity of local and regional businesses and organizations.
“Without the support of individuals, businesses and organizations who donate the items to the auction, this event would not be the success it is each year,” said BC’s Ruth Blankenship, vice president for advancement. “That’s how we’re able to generate the dollars we do for student scholarships.”
