The Counseling Program at Bluefield University is conducting a faculty search for a full-time Assistant Professor with an emphasis on Clinical Mental Health. Responsibilities will include teaching in the Master of Arts in Counseling program, advising students, and supervising practicum/internship students. Candidates should exemplify servant leadership and service extending to the University, the School of Education and Social Sciences, and the profession.
Faculty within the Counseling Program are versatile with instructional pedagogy utilizing a hybrid delivery model of online, asynchronous, and in-person instruction. All core faculty are required to participate in on-campus instruction three times each semester during an intensives weekend. Additional duties will include (but are not limited to) assisting with accreditation, participating in program and course development, assisting with admissions and recruitment, participating in new student orientation and welcome sessions, serving on faculty committees, and mentoring adjunct faculty members.
Counseling faculty at Bluefield University are innovative thought leaders, that collaborate to seek solutions and create equitable opportunity for all students, clients, and the profession. Faculty within the program must uphold the highest standards of professional conduct, have robust clinical experience, be active in roles of leadership and/or advocacy within the profession, contribute to curriculum development, and demonstrate a passion for growing counselors-in-training. Additionally, faculty within the department are committed to each student’s success and are willing to create individualized supports to ensure their achievement within the program.
Faculty are required to maintain the appropriate licensure, including all activities necessary to maintain such licensure; preference for state licensure in the state of Virginia, North Carolina, or West Virginia or ability to attain. They must also meet all requirements and expectations for faculty as described by any applicable accrediting organization with jurisdiction over the faculty’s program of record.
Required Qualifications:
- Doctorate in Counselor Education. Advanced ABD will be considered; degree must be conferred by the time of appointment
- Expertise in clinical mental health counseling
- Certification or ability to be licensed as a professional counselor
- Experience or training in teaching, supervising, and advising counseling students
- Expertise with distance learning and instructional technology
- Professional experience working with diverse populations (students or clients)
- Travel to the face-to-face intensives (3 weekends during 16-week term) and graduation is required
Preferred Qualifications:
- Current or previous licensure as a professional counselor in Virginia, North Carolina, and/or West Virginia
- Current or previous licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor
- Paid work experience as a professional counselor and/or clinical supervisor
- Doctorate in Counselor Education and meets requirements of CACREP defined “core faculty”
- Demonstrated community involvement in a leadership, advocacy, or social justice role
- Membership and active involvement in professional counseling organizations
- -The individual must be a committed Christian and have ability to integrate faith and learning, foster critical and creative thinking, work cooperatively within the campus community to advance the mission of the University, and demonstrate excellence in graduate teaching.
