Assistant or Associate Professor of English

JOB SUMMARY: The College of Arts and Letters seeks applications for a full­-time Assistant or Associate Professor in English to start no later than August 2024.

 JOB DESCRIPTION: The selected candidate will provide service to Bluefield University, the College of Arts & Letters, and the profession. Specifically, the successful candidate will be expected to provide education which aligns within the framework of the Bluefield’s curricula and Christ-centered foundation, promoting and enhancing student success by using contemporary methods of evidence-based pedagogy, and demonstrating the ability to engage students in the learning process.

A doctorate in English or related field is expected (candidates who are ABD may be considered). A PhD or emphasis in Rhetoric and Composition is preferred.

Faculty responsibilities include teaching 24-27 credit hours per year, advising, committee work, involvement in professional development, and committee responsibilities.

The successful candidate will have the ability to work collaboratively with faculty and staff and must possess effective communication skills both verbal and written that will represent Bluefield University and the English program within the community and most importantly to students and prospective students.

The individual must be a committed Christian and able to integrate faith and learning, foster critical and creative thinking, and work cooperatively within the campus community to advance the mission of the University.

The candidate must demonstrate excellence in undergraduate teaching, preferably in various modalities (face-to-face, online, hybrid, etc.).
