Administrative Assistant – School of Education

Beginning as soon as possible

The School of Education and Social Sciences at Bluefield College is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as a part-time Administrative Assistant. This position will provide support to both the School of Education programs and Counselor Education programs.

This position is a primary contact for undergraduate and graduate students for the School of Education and Counselor Education programs; providing administrative support to SOE and CED students, faculty, and staff. This includes but is not limited to:

  • assisting students as needed
  • assisting faculty as needed
  • processing of various forms
  • ordering supplies
  • maintaining detailed and organized files
  • maintaining and revising departmental forms, catalog, and handbooks
  • composing correspondence and other documents
  • planning and set up for special events
  • assisting with accreditation and reporting requirements
  • assisting with processing of student field experiences
  • performing basic secretarial duties such as: answering phones, filing, copying, distributing mail, entering data, etc.

The Assistant will interact with faculty, staff, students, stakeholders, and others always projecting a professional image.

Preferred candidates

Experience working in an educational setting.

Required Qualifications

Experience providing administrative support in a professional or academic setting. Proficiency with standard computer functions such as word-processing, spreadsheets, email, calendaring, and internet navigation. Must be familiar with PC platforms. Demonstrated ability to anticipate, identify and solve problems as they emerge. Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to work in a highly professional and confidential manner with diverse groups of faculty, staff, students, and visitors. Demonstrated ability to effectively handle multiple tasks, set priorities, and work independently. Valid driver’s license required.

This position has no specific working conditions; the work environment is typical to that of a small private residential institution of higher education, with physical remote site locations within 500 miles of the main campus in Bluefield, Virginia.
