Youth Ministry Minor and Track Overview

Christian Studies students have the option to minor in youth ministry or to take the youth ministry track as a part of the Christian Studies Major. 

Youth Ministry Minor

The Youth Ministry minor consists of specific courses that will engage the theological and methodological issues foundational to effective youth ministry. Philosophy of Youth Ministry, biblical studies, theology, and World Religions provide essential grounding for doing youth ministry in our social context.  The minor also includes Child and Adolescent Development to provide insight in the mental and emotional development of youth.  The minor also allows the student to be immersed in the everyday practice of youth ministry through a Youth Ministry Internship. This combination of classes covers both the theological foundations and the practical aspects of organizing and implementing youth ministry. 

Youth Ministry Track

This track consists of three specific courses. In the Philosophy of Youth Ministry students will engage the theological and methodological issues foundational to effective youth ministry.  The track also includes Child and Adolescent Development to provide insight in the mental and emotional development of youth.  Finally this track allows the student to be immersed in the everyday practice of youth ministry through a Youth Ministry Internship. Within the context of the Christian Studies major this combination of classes provides skills and knowledge for engaging in ministry with youth in today’s world.
