Only online courses are available for registration and these courses are designated by a white box in the Add column on the course schedule. 8. HOW TO DROP A COURSE To drop a course, login to MyBC and select the Student tab. Click Courses then select the Add/Drop Courses link. Your current schedule will appear at the bottom of the page. Simply click the drop icon beside the course you want to remove. This option is available until the course registration deadline, which is one week prior to the course start date. After this date, please alert the Registrar’s Office of your intent to withdrawal from a course by emailing dmonroe@bluefield.edu or calling (276)326-4550. Please note that dropping a course may affect your financial aid status. The Financial Aid Department may be contacted by emailing ataylor@bluefield.edu or (276) 326-4223. Please see the following policies for additional information concerning adding and dropping classes.
WHEN TO DROP A COURSE A student may drop a class during the first five business days of the semester and this course will not become a part of the student’s permanent academic record. After the first five business days of classes and up to the deadline to drop a class, a grade of “W” (withdrawal from the course) is issued. Last day to drop a Degree Completion Program or Online class with a grade of “W” is by the end of the third week of the course. Once a student attends the first class it is his or her responsibility to drop the course by officially notifying the Registrar’s Office. Dropping a course without official notification earns a grade of “F.”
ADMINSTRATIVE DROPPING FROM A COURSE A student will be administratively dropped from a course if he or she does not attend the first class and this course will not become a part of the student’s permanent academic record. First class attendance for an online course is based on the student logging in to the course and visiting the content area. Once a student attends the first class it is his or her responsibility to drop the course by officially notifying the Registrar’s Office and requesting to be dropped with a grade of “W.”
FINANCIAL POLICY Payment must be made prior to the start date of the course. If payment is not received by this date, the course will be dropped from the student’s record and charges will be removed for their account.
TryBC is a special reduced rate online program for first-time Bluefield College students. Individuals who have never enrolled in a BC course may take up to three credit hours of Saturday or online classes at a significantly reduced rate of $70 per credit hour. TryBC is designed for adults who are thinking about pursuing a college degree, but who are just not sure they're quite ready for a full semester of study. The program also benefits other non-degree seeking students, like high schoolers or community residents with a desire to learn a particular subject.
Qualifying students may register for up to 15 additional online credits at a rate of $350 per credit hour. A student is admitted into the TryBC program as a non-degree seeking student. Should the student desire to continue his/her education in subsequent semesters, he/she would need to reapply as a degree-seeking student and submit transcripts and immunization records. Financial aid is not available for non-degree seeking students. This program is applicable to fall, spring and summer semesters.
