Doug Minnix  

Doug received his Bachelor’s from Bluefield College in 1990.  As a student of Bluefield College, his interests were primarily in Wellness and the influence of lifestyle factors on health and performance.  As a result, Doug traveled to Kyoto, Japan where he studied Japanese culture and lifestyle factors such as the Japanese approach to diet, physical activity, and stress management.  In 1992, Doug graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville with a Masters of Science in Exercise Physiology.  At Tennessee, his primary interest and area of concentration was Exercise Testing and Cardiac Rehab.  Following graduation from UT, Doug directed the cardiopulmonary rehab and therapeutic exercise programs at Wilkes Regional Medical center in North Wilkesboro, NC.  Later, Doug then worked as a Functional Capacity Evaluator at Bluefield Regional Medical Center in Bluefield, WV and an adjunct instructor at Bluefield College.  In 2000,  Doug became a full time instructor at Bluefield College teaching many of the Health and Exercise Science classes.  Classes taught include Kinesiology, Test and Measurement, Physiology of Exercise Lab, Motor Learning, Nutrition and Metabolism, Personal and Community Health, as well as Exercise Testing and Prescription.  Doug’s current area of research and teaching interests includes the use of behavior modification strategies to enhance positive lifestyle factors such as exercise and diet.  Presently, an assistant professor in the Division of Exercise and Sport Science at Bluefield College, Doug is seeking to expand his career by pursuing a doctorate degree in Health Promotion.  Doug also oversees the Intramural and Karate programs at Bluefield College.  Doug’s hobbies include teaching and practicing Karate.  He enjoys teaching the kids Sunday school class at his church and spending time with his wife and children.  Doug can be reached at Bluefield College in the Division of Exercise and Sport Science, Bluefield VA.  His office phone is 276-326-4250 and email is dminnix@bluefield.edu
