Exercise & Sports Science

Bluefield College’s Division of Exercise and Sport Science seeks to promote excellence in teaching, practice, and service within the multi-dimensional framework of prevention, rehabilitation, health/physical education, recreation, and sports management.  We are dedicated to providing individualized and innovative programs of study and applied experiences that will enable students to become effective practitioners in their fields of study.

Students may choose to pursue a B.S. or B.A. degree in the Exercise and Sport Science major.  All Exercise and Sport Science students will undergo a similar core of study. Depending on the students career goals, however, students may choose from three concentrations within the Exercise and Sport Science major.  The three concentrations follow:  Sports Medicine, Physical Education, and Sport Management/Recreation.

The Sports Medicine concentration prepares students for admittance into graduate and professional programs such as exercise physiology, physical therapy, medical school, etc.  The Sports Medicine concentration offers training and development for students interested in rehabilitative medicine careers such as cardiac rehabilitation and therapeutic exercise.  In addition, Sports Medicine students can choose to focus their studies in the areas of preventative medicine as well as strength & conditioning and coaching.

Students undergoing the Sports Medicine program will emphasize a scientific and practical concentration of courses, which will allow them to gain a complete understanding of how exercise impacts physiology. Once students complete the practical and scientific concentration, they have the opportunity to tailor their studies according to specific areas of interest and develop practical knowledge that prepares them for careers in their selected areas.  For example, pre-med students will individualize their program to meet medical school requirements
