Mathematics

The Mathematics Major:

 When you major in mathematics at Bluefield College, you will begin your studies with the fundamentals of the discipline and move on to more advanced concepts in calculus, linear algebra, real analysis, geometry, and more.  In keeping with our promise to personalize each student’s education, you will find small class sizes, with all math major coursework taught by full-time faculty.
If your interest is education, Bluefield College offers teacher licensure in mathematics.  But whatever your interest is, we provide you with the knowledge of concepts and techniques necessary for advanced study or employment in a number of exciting fields, including:

Faculty Information:

Dr. Lewis Buterakos received Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Geology from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.  He received Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Mathematics from Virginia Tech.  He has taught at Bluefield College since 2002.
                  
Mrs. Sandra Elswick received a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Mathematics from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.  She also received a Master of Education in Mathematics Education from Virginia Tech. She has been an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Bluefield College since 1991.
