Art

Welcome to the Art Department

The Art Department is housed in the Donald and Maria Cox Visual Arts Building, which opened in the fall of 2000. This new art complex tripled our studio space and is a great environment to create art. With East River Mountain as our stage, the Cox Building is a diamond on our already beautiful campus.
At Bluefield College we specialize in the traditional arts of Drawing, Painting, Ceramics, and Sculpture. We also offer classes in Graphic Design and Art History. Our curriculum is geared for preparation to attend graduate school or enter the work place. You can major in Art, Graphic Communications or pursue teacher certification in Art Education.  Art life at Bluefield College includes a variety of activities. Opportunities for students include visiting artist workshops, field trips to area museums and galleries (including Wash D.C.), an Art Club for camaraderie among majors and minors, and a Fine Arts Community School where students can teach area youth and adults. Students also exhibit their work in Lansdell Hall each semester, and art majors help design several on campus publications including our web page.
We have several Art Scholarships available each year so be sure and inquire about these. Please browse our website and contact us if you have any further questions.
