MusicThe music curriculum is designed to train music educators and church musicians, to help all students gain a better understanding of and appreciation for a variety of musical expressions, and to provide experienceswhich result in intellectual, artistic, emotional, and spiritual growth for its students. This is achieved by providing studies and experiences relevant to a student's background which develop skills in the performance of music, generate insights into the nature of music, and provide for an understanding of the relationship of music to the world in which we live.
The Music Department offers the Bachelor of Arts degree in Music. A broad range of courses and activities, individualized instruction, scholarships and financial aid, performance opportunities on and off campus, an outstanding and highly qualified faculty, and the Bluefield College Performing Arts Series are all available. The music major may elect a concentration in Church Music, Applied Music (vocal or piano, pedagogy), or General Music with or without Teacher Licensure. A music minor is also available. No minor is required with a music major although students may elect to pursue a minor if they so desire.
