Sheila Nelson-Hensley.

Dear Virginia Students,

I am writing to our students who receive the Virginia Tuition Assistance Grant (TAG), to provide an important and time sensitive update on the status of this program. The Commonwealth of Virginia faces a budget shortfall of nearly $3 billion. Funding for many state programs will be significantly reduced or eliminated. Although we cannot confirm this yet, there is the possibility of major cuts to the Virginia Tuition Assistance Grant (TAG), including a possible reduction in the award amount for this coming Spring.

More details about the state budget will become available in mid-October. However, if you are concerned about the possibility of cuts to the TAG program, I suggest that you send an email as quickly as possible to Governor Kaine and members of the General Assembly. Two weeks from now, decisions will be made on the extent of the budget cuts and which, if any, programs are exempt from cuts.
