How and when do I find out who I will be rooming with?
New students will find out through a packet that is sent out in mid-July. Information pertaining to their residence hall, room number and roommate information will be enclosed. New students may also access this information by logging into the MyBC portal.
Returning students will select their residence hall and roommate before the end of the spring semester at the annual room lottery. Returning students can keeps tabs of any changes to their housing assignment by logging onto MyBC.
How does telephone service work?
Each room has a phone line installed and active, all you have to do is bring your own phone and plug it into the phone jack in your room. There are no additional charges for local calls. You room phone number is posted on the back of your residence hall room door.
**Note to families: for security purposes the Office of Residence Life cannot give out any personal student information including room number and phone number. Please be sure to get this information from your student before leaving on move-in day.
How do I get cable TV in my room?
Basic cable is provided in all student rooms and is included in your housing charges. Televisions and cable cords are not provided, so please bring your own.
Can I use Duct Tape to hang items like posters and pictures on my walls?
NO! Due to its strong adhesive quality, Duct Tape is not permitted in the residence halls. You are also not permitted to use nails in the wall. However, 3M tape and hooks work wonderfully!
How do I get my room key?
All new students must check-in on the Quad in between Shott Hall and the Science Center, before checking into your residence hall. You will be directed to your residence hall from the Quad where a Residence Life staff member will assist you with your room check-in.
What does my room include?
Each residence hall room has 1 bed, 1 desk, 1 chair, 1 dresser and either closets or wardrobes for each occupant in the room. We also provide micro fridge units for every residence hall room on campus.
Can I bring any extra furniture?
Students must keep college furniture provided in the student rooms. Students may bring additional furniture but please keep in mind your limited space. Students must also keep the entry to the room cleared due to fire safety compliance.
What size are the mattresses?
Most mattresses are extra-long twin.
What are the dimensions of my room?
You can find the dimensions of your room on the website under Residence Life.
Can I paint my room?
We encourage you to individualize your room but you should do so without painting.
Can I move in early?
Due to staffing constraints Residence Life cannot accommodate early arrivals.
Do I have to sign up for a meal plan?
A meal plan is required for all residential students and do not need to sign up.
How do I change rooms?
Requests to transfer rooms should go through the Resident Assistant and Resident Hall Director of your floor/building during the first two weeks of school. After that time, changes will only take place after administrative approval. Students wishing to change rooms and/or roommates will have to fill out a Room Change Request form and pay $50.00 processing fee.
What do I do if I lose my key?
If your keys are lost or stolen you must notify your RA or RHD immediately. For safety reason locks will be changed for all rooms with lost/stolen keys. The student will be be billed for the cost of the lock change and new keys.
What do I do if I lost my ID card?
If your ID card is lost or stolen report it immediately to the office of Student Development. They will issue you a new card. Card replacement is $20.00.
Where do I take my room trash?
There are dumpsters near each residence hall. Students are expected to take their trash out and not leave trash in their rooms on in the hallways of their residence halls. Students not disposing of their trash appropriately will be fined!
