
Bio
Robert began his duties on July 1, 2009. He holds the Ph.D., Th.M. and M. Div. degrees from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and the Bachelor of Arts degree from Furman University. He has done additional doctoral studies at the Vanderbilt Divinity School and has participated in the Institute for Educational Management in the Graduate School of Education at Harvard University. Dr. Shippey is married to Cheryl Caddell Shippey who serves as the Director of Annual Giving for the Floyd Hospital Foundation. Cheryl is a graduate of Baylor University and the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. They have three children, Margaret, Ben and Aaron. Margaret lives in New York City, Ben is a sophomore at the University of Georgia and Aaron is a freshman at Gardner-Webb University. Dr. Shippey is the author of numerous articles, commentary lessons and a book titled Listening in a Loud World, which was published by Mercer University Press in 2005. Prior to his service at Bluefield College, Dr. Shippey served as Vice President for Advancement and as Associate Professor of Religion at Shorter College, Vice President for Academic Affairs at Truett-McConnell College and as an assistant dean at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. In addition, he has held pastorates and interim pastorates of churches in Kentucky and Georgia. Dr. Shippey was born in Mobile, Alabama and grew up in Warner Robins, Georgia.
