Mrs. Brown will join the Bluefield College family in the fall of 2017 as an Assistant Professor in the School of Education. Mrs. Brown has years of experience teaching elementary school at Cedar Bluff Elementary School. She has taught second, third, and fifth grades as an inclusion classroom teacher and has spent the past several years teaching grades K–5 as a Title I teacher specializing in reading and mathematics instruction. During Mrs. Brown’s time as a Title I teacher, her school was honored with the Title I Distinguished School Award for excellence in student achievement. Mrs. Brown also served for years as her school’s testing coordinator, PBIS coordinator, and CEDAR Coal coordinator.

After graduating in the first master’s program at Bluefield College, Mrs. Brown served as an adjunct instructor in the Education Department at Bluefield College, teaching online classes to undergraduates, and math recertification courses to elementary and middle school teachers in Tazewell County. Mrs. Brown also provided several professional development opportunities and workshops for teachers and parents at Cedar Bluff Elementary School and throughout Tazewell County in the areas of math, reading, technology, and testing strategies. In 2016, Mrs. Brown was honored as a semi-finalist for the McGlothlin Award for Teaching Excellence.

Mrs. Brown is also the wife of a pastor and the mother of two boys.
