Overview

The Division of Science and Mathematics provides a Christian learning environment that is dynamic and engaging. Our curriculum is diverse and challenging, developing the student’s skills in critical thinking and communication. Our faculty provides individual attention and instruction from a Christian perspective. We will prepare you to join our successful graduates that have gone on to professional schools (including schools of medicine, optometry, dentistry, and pharmacy), graduate schools (including Virginia Tech, University of Kentucky, Texas A&M, University of South Carolina, and more!) and various careers in science and mathematics.

 

Concentrations

Biology

A major in Biology at Bluefield College challenges you intellectually, but it also provides you with the knowledge of concepts and techniques necessary for advanced study or employment in a number of exciting fields, including: Graduate School in biology, environmental science, or virtually any biomedical field, Forensic Science, Teaching (teacher licensure is available), Environmental Protection, or Industry. Chemistry

When you major in Chemistry at Bluefield College, you will begin your studies with the fundamentals of the discipline and move on to more advanced concepts and laboratory work in fields such as biochemistry, organic chemistry, instrumental analysis or analytical chemistry. In keeping with our promise to personalize each student’s education, you will find small class sizes with all science coursework and laboratories taught by full-time faculty holding a Ph.D. Find out more about the chemistry concentration.

 

Mathematics

When you major in Mathematics at Bluefield College, you will begin your studies with the fundamentals of the discipline and move on to more advanced concepts in calculus, linear algebra, real analysis, geometry, and more. In keeping with our promise to personalize each student’s education, you will find small class sizes, with all math major coursework taught by full-time faculty. Forensic Science

The academically demanding Forensic Science major combines the coursework in criminal justice and the sciences needed to prepare students for careers & graduate programs in forensic science, or criminalistics, as it is sometimes called. Find out more about the forensic science concentration.
