Bluefield College is holding its second annual #new2BC Photo Contest!
Submit photos capturing your experiences as you transition to your first term at BC: packing your stuff, traveling to campus, decorating your residence hall room, making friends, attending events and classes...there are endless possibilities!
new2BC will be a digital biography of your transition to BC that we hope will help you meet new friends, experience the traditions of BC, and make positive connections with faculty, staff, and administrators.
new2BC begins July 28, 2018. However, you must complete a release form before or at the time you submit your first photo. No pictures will be accepted without a signed release form.
The release form satisfies copyright requirements and gives BC permission to use your pictures. Without the form we cannot accept or display your photos.
You can access the release form below and submit it online. If you are under 18 years of age, your parent/guardian must also indicate consent on the form.
You will be sent an email that we received your photo, but we do not have a signed release from, and for this reason your photo has been deleted from our files. If you are interested in participating, please complete the release form. Once we receive your release form, we will send you an email to resubmit your photos.
There are no limits on the number of pictures you can submit. However, in order to be considered for the gallery showing, your submission must adhere to the guidelines listed above under Requirements for Participation.
We suggest the following kinds of photos for submission; however, photos are not limited to this list: pictures from New Student Adventures, Orientation, Welcome Week activities, pre-season practices, move-in days, meals in the Shott Hall cafeteria, convocations, fine arts events, chapels, athletic teams’ games, your first classes, and photos with your professors, your parents, new friends, your new roommate, BC staff members, or our Victor E. Ram mascot. In addition to these, you can submit other photos as long as they reflect what you do as you transition and settle into your first semester at BC.
The committee will select several pictures from those submitted. Not every picture will be part of the gallery showing; however, they could be used in other ways, such as on the website, in BC print material, etc.
They could be used in other ways such as on the website, in BC print material, etc.
All first-year and transfer students entering their first semester at BC can participate.
Picture should be uploaded to Twitter or Instagram using #new2BC. Be sure to make your pictures public so they can be accessed by the review committee. Photos can also be submitted as an attachment to an email sent to email@example.com.
Pictures should be a minimum of 1MB, but no more than 3MB. The larger size will provide a better resolution of pixels when they are printed and framed.
There are several factors that contribute to the pictures chosen for the gallery showing. Things like clarity, size, theme, appropriateness of photo, and those that capture the excitement of coming to BC. The committee will make every effort to use as many pictures as possible.
September 21, 2018.
The gallery opening will be Saturday, November 3, 2018, during BC’s Homecoming weekend. There will be a showing and reception.
Students whose photos have been selected and their invited guests, BC staff and faculty, and BC Alumni will be invited to attend the showing/reception.
Once the committee makes its selections, you will receive an email and invite to the showing. You must RSVP by the stated date on the invitation. This is important for planning purposes.
The showing will be available for public viewing on the first floor of Lansdell Hall after the gallery opening.
