Bluefield College is holding its first annual new2BC Photo Contest!

Submit photos capturing your experiences as you transition to your first term at BC: packing your stuff, traveling to campus, decorating your residence hall room, making friends, attending events and classes...there are endless possibilities!

Requirements For Participation
  • The contest is open to all first-year and transfer students entering their first semester at BC.
  • Beginning July 24, 2017, upload your photos to Twitter or Instagram using #new2BC. Photos can also be emailed to .
  • There is no limit to the number of photos you can submit.
  • You must submit the release form before posting or uploading your photo in order for the picture to be accepted for the contest.
  • The deadline for submitting pictures is September 15, 2017, at 5:00 p.m. No pictures will be considered after the deadline.
  • A gallery opening and reception will be held on campus on Saturday, October 21, 2017, and will be open to students whose photos are chosen for the gallery, along with a few guests.
  • If your photo is selected for the gallery showing, you will be contacted by email with further details.
  • We suggest the following kinds of photos for submission; however, photos are not limited to this list: pictures from New Student Adventures, Orientation, Welcome Week activities, pre-season practices, move-in days, meals in the Shott Hall cafeteria, convocations, fine arts events, chapels, athletic teams’ games, your first classes, and photos with your professors, your parents, new friends, your new roommate, BC staff members, or BC’s Victor E. Ram mascot.
  • Photos including inappropriate material, whether on clothing or in the photo generally, will not be accepted. Such material includes, but may not be limited to, nudity, alcohol or drugs, negative statements, discriminatory or derogatory language, and bashing of other schools.

What is the purpose of the new2BC Photo Contest?

new2BC will be a digital biography of your transition to BC that we hope will help you meet new friends, experience the traditions of BC, and make positive connections with faculty, staff, and administrators.

When can I start taking pictures?

new2BC begins July 24, 2017. However, you must complete a release form before or at the time you submit your first photo. No pictures will be accepted without a signed release form.

Why do I have to sign a release form, and what is it?

The release form satisfies copyright requirements and gives BC permission to use your pictures. Without the form we cannot accept or display your photos.

Where can I get the release form?

You can access the release form below and submit it online. If you are under 18 years of age, your parent/guardian must also indicate consent on the form.

What happens if I submit picture without a release form?

You will be sent an email that we received your photo, but we do not have a signed release from, and for this reason your photo has been deleted from our files. If you are interested in participating, please complete the release form. Once we receive your release form, we will send you an email to resubmit your photos.

How many pictures can I submit?

There are no limits on the number of pictures you can submit. However, in order to be considered for the gallery showing, your submission must adhere to the guidelines listed above under Requirements for Participation.

What type of pictures can be submitted?

We suggest the following kinds of photos for submission; however, photos are not limited to this list: pictures from New Student Adventures, Orientation, Welcome Week activities, pre-season practices, move-in days, meals in the Shott Hall cafeteria, convocations, fine arts events, chapels, athletic teams’ games, your first classes, and photos with your professors, your parents, new friends, your new roommate, BC staff members, or our Victor E. Ram mascot. In addition to these, you can submit other photos as long as they reflect what you do as you transition and settle into your first semester at BC.

Will all of my pictures be used for the gallery showing?

The committee will select several pictures from those submitted. Not every picture will be part of the gallery showing; however, they could be used in other ways, such as on the website, in BC print material, etc.

Who can participate?

All first-year and transfer students entering their first semester at BC can participate.

Where do I submit my pictures?

What size should the pictures be?

Pictures should be a minimum of 1MB, but no more than 3MB. The larger size will provide a better resolution of pixels when they are printed and framed.

How will the pictures be chosen?

There are several factors that contribute to the pictures chosen for the gallery showing. Things like clarity, size, theme, appropriateness of photo, and those that capture the excitement of coming to BC. The committee will make every effort to use as many pictures as possible.

When is the deadline for submitting pictures?

September 15, 2017.

When is the gallery showing?

The gallery opening will be Saturday, October 21, 2017, during BC’s Homecoming weekend. There will be a showing and reception.

Who can come to the showing?

Students whose photos have been selected and their invited guests, BC staff and faculty, and BC Alumni will be invited to attend the showing/reception.

How will we know our photos have been chosen as part of the showing?

Once the committee makes its selections, you will receive an email and invite to the showing. You must RSVP by the stated date on the invitation. This is important for planning purposes.

What if my pictures where not chosen for the gallery showing? Will I be able to attend?

The showing will be available for public viewing on the first floor of Lansdell Hall after the gallery opening.

Photo Release

By typing my name below and submitting this form with my photo(s), I hereby grant Bluefield College and its photo contest organizers the right to use my photograph(s) and my likeness in any and all of its print and electronic publications related to the photo contest without payment or any other compensation or consideration.

I further give Bluefield College the right to use my photo(s) not only in publications, but also in advertising, promotion, trade, or any other medium for any purpose. I also hold Bluefield College harmless from any and all liability that might arise or result from the use of my photo(s).

I understand and agree that the photos will become the property of Bluefield College and will not be returned. As such, I authorize Bluefield College to edit, alter, copy, exhibit, publish and distribute my photo(s) for purposes outside of the photo contest, including but not limited to news releases, magazine articles, recruiting publications, web and social media postings, and print, radio, television and outdoor advertising. In addition, I waive the right to inspect or approve the product wherein my likeness appears and release Bluefield College and those acting pursuant to its authority from liability for any violation of personal or proprietary right I may have in connection with all such uses.

Additionally, I hereby hold harmless and release and forever discharge Bluefield College from all claims, demands, and causes of action which, I, my heirs, representatives, executors, administrators or any other persons acting on my behalf or on behalf of my estate have or may have by reason of this authorization.
