Bluefield College Introduces
Tuition Discount for Military Personnel
In order to show our appreciation for their service, dedication, commitment, and sacrifice for our country, Bluefield College is pleased to extend a 35% tuition discount for adult undergraduate programs to all active duty military members. Virginia residents must complete the Virginia Tuition Assistance Grant application as this award will be calculated as part of the discount.
Military personnel have several options available to finance his or her education. Cash and credit cards are always welcome. Federal financial aid is available. The first step in the federal financial aid process should be completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) It can be completed online at www.fafsa.ed.gov . Be sure to include Bluefield’s school code: 003703. After acceptance and receipt of the FAFSA output document, financial aid eligibility with be determined for each prospective student. After verification and packaging have been completed, an official award letter is sent to the student. The award letter will show any grants, scholarships, and recommended loan amounts, and will list any known documents and paperwork needed. It is important to read the award letter carefully, and call the Bluefield Financial Aid Office if there are any questions.
Participation in the Montgomery GI Bill, allows for much better options for military personnel. Active duty personnel benefit from a recent change in the federal law which allows use of military Tuition Assistance and the ability to supplement it with the GI Bill educational benefit.

Bluefield College accepts military training for college credit. The amount of credit allowed for military service shall be evaluated on an individual basis. All military training must be documented on official military transcripts and will be evaluated based on the student’s current educational goals. Transfer of credit from the military to a Bluefield College official transcript will be based on the American Council on Education’s Guide to the Evaluation of Educational Experiences in the Armed Services. All credit must be in line with the student’s current educational goals even if it is to apply as elective credit. No more than 30 semester hours (excluding six hours of health and physical education – see below) will be applied as transfer credit.
Bluefield College awards six semester hours of college credit to any student who has completed one year of military service. Three semester hours will apply towards health credit, specifically HEA 2003, and three semester hours will apply to physical education activity requirements. In order for students to obtain these six hours of credit, students must provide the Registrar with an official copy of their DD214.
