Online Master in Business Administration Overview

The goals of the Department of Business graduate programs are consistent with the College mission to provide an exceptional educational experience that prepares students to serve as transformational servant leaders.

The graduate degree programs are offered in fields in which there is a need for qualified people who provide social value and critically assess and make decisions based on relevant stakeholders and ethical considerations. The online MBA has concentrations in leadership, finance, and healthcare management and will enable the college to offer the new required 150 credit hours of coursework necessary for individuals to be eligible to sit for the certified public accountant exam in Virginia and West Virginia.

Social and Contextual Awareness

Bluefield College MBA graduates complete a six credit hour practicum that serves their organizations or community needs through application of functional knowledge and academic coursework.

Social, Environmental, and Economic Responsibility

Bluefield College MBA graduates participate in decision-making that incorporates stakeholders, employ decision models, and serves to create and sustain social, environmental, and economic value.

Internships

The capstone course uses an extensive and reflective team-based service learning project in a business, community center, state agency, or non-profit organization as a laboratory to learn about management, leadership, and organizations. In addition, students participate in a business simulation, GSB, with other MBA students across the US. Team presentations are required. The course develops skills in leading teams, organizations, community partnerships, and societal and global management initiatives.

Program Outcomes

In addition to the 36 hours of required coursework, students will be required to participate in one NetImpact program, a community of more than 60,000 students and professional leaders creating positive social and environmental change in the workplace and the world, and complete Gallup’s Strengths-Finder. Optional, but strongly encouraged, completion of B-Impact Assessment, tools that assesses organizational impact, and submit a professional portfolio. Scores on rubrics must be 3 or above on a 5 point scale to satisfy requirements.
