The M.A. in Biomedical Sciences program requires two letters of recommendation – one from a premedical committee or science faculty member and one professional letter from a supervisor or shadowing mentor (preferred from an M.D. or D.O.).
Students who have been out of college for five or more years may be unable to provide a pre-med committee/advisor or science faculty letter of recommendation. On a case-by-case basis, for these non-traditional students only, we will consider accepting a letter of recommendation from the continuing education department or in-service training instructor for courses completed through employment activities. Please contact us at
if you feel this applies to you.
Letters of recommendation are also submitted to the CAS by the letter writer. They are not sent directly to Bluefield College or VCOM. The PostBacCAS uses contact information submitted by the applicant to notify letter writers of the recommendation request.
A complete application includes your complete, submitted application (including transcripts), and two letters of recommendation. Applicants are not processed or reviewed until the application is complete and all components included. Applications are reviewed in the order they are completed. The status of an application may be checked via the “Check Status” tab of your application in the PostBacCAS.
Once an application has been processed, it will then be reviewed by members of the program’s admissions committee to determine the suitability of the applicant for the program. Applicants will be notified by email of the committee’s decision. Please note that personal interviews are not conducted.
The time required for processing and review of a completed application packet generally varies from four to eight weeks, depending on the number of completed application packets received during that time period. The bulk of applications are typically received at or near the April 15 deadline, thus requiring up to eight weeks before a selection decision can be made by the committee; therefore, early submission of an application generally affords a shorter processing time.
