Bluefield College is currently seeking to fill an AmeriCorps VISTA position
Bluefield College is currently seeking to fill an AmeriCorps VISTA position of Community Service Advocate. The Community Service Advocate office is located in the Dan MacMillan Center for Mission Ministry and Service. This position will be responsible for assessing and documenting policies and procedures related to tracking service opportunities and hours both on and off campus. This will be achieved by developing a sustainable volunteer network system to serve our campus, Tazewell County, Virginia and Mercer County, West Virginia.
Essential duties and functions will include the following:
• Work with Office of Student Development in tracking service projects
• Work with Director of Vocation and Calling on creating awareness
• Manage projects, programs, initiatives and timelines
• Train volunteers in recruitment strategies and outreach
• Build and maintain partnerships
Applicants must be able to commit to a year of service, beginning November, 2014. Participants in the VISTA program require a full-time commitment. Participants may not hold a second job during their term of service. Participants will also receive the following:
• A paid living-stipend based upon regional salaries
• An educational award or cash stipend after completion of service
• Healthcare benefits
• Student Loan forbearance/deferment during the year of service
