The Substance Abuse Symposium will feature regional substance abuse prevention and recovery specialists providing presentations, training opportunities and workshops of interest to the general public; professionals in human services, law enforcement, education, health care, mental health; and faith group leaders. Registration for the symposium has now closed.  Walk-up registrations will be accepted for Track III.

The Symposium on Substance Abuse Prevention and Recovery in Appalachia has three tracks:

  • TRACKS I & II*: Mental Health First Aid (Adult or Youth): Learn how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders in adults (over 18) or youth (ages 12-18).  Gain the skills you need to reach out and provide initial support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and help connect them to appropriate care.
    • Pre-registration required (select either Adult or Youth version)
    • You must complete full 8 hour training.
    • Workbook fee of $17 will be collected at the door.
    • Registration ends on September 28th, so be sure to claim a seat!
    • The number of seats is capped at 25, but there will be a wait list.
  • TRACK III: General Track with REVIVE! Training  Learn how to recognize and respond to an opioid overdose emergency with the administration of naloxone (Narcan ®).
    • Pre-registration is enouraged, but walk-up registrations will be accepted.

*A fee of $17 will be collected at the door for tracks I and II
