Department of History Overview
True disciples of the subject consider history to be the “mother of all disciplines.” That is, since everything has a history, the study of the past theoretically encompasses all human knowledge. Yet history serves a much more basic function.
Bequeathing an informed and purposeful existence is the role of education, which is why history has always been central to the liberal arts – the educational model followed by colleges and universities for centuries. Yet Christianity teaches that true knowledge begins with the fear of God, which is why Bluefield College is a Christian liberal arts college. Thus the study of history speaks to the very core of human aspirations for a life of meaning and eternal worth.
We invite you to begin the journey to your future on the rich foundations of the past as you join us in remembering at Bluefield College.
