Department of Art and Design Overview
The Art and Design Department is housed in the Donald and Maria Cox Visual Arts Building which opened in the fall of 2000. This new art complex tripled our studio space and is a delightful environment to create art. With East River Mountain as our stage, the Cox Building is a diamond on our already beautiful campus.
At Bluefield College, we offer 3 majors in the art and design field: Graphic Communication, Art and Art Education. Our Graphic Communication major is a unique major combining art, communication and business classes. Students take classes in Computer Graphics, Drawing, Printmaking, Mass Communications, Marketing, and Advertising just to name a few. In Art we specialize in the traditional arts of Drawing, Painting, Ceramics and Sculpture, and teach the student how to develop a professional art portfolio. In addition, we offer classes in Photography and Art History. Our Art Education program is Art - Prek -12 with a teaching licensure in Virginia.
