Welcome to the Department of Art and Design

The Art and Design Department is housed in the Donald and Maria Cox Visual Arts Building which opened in the fall of 2000.

This new art complex tripled our studio space and is a delightful environment to create art. With East River Mountain as our stage, the Cox Building is a diamond on our already beautiful campus.

Majors and Teaching Licensure

In the Art and Design major, we specialize in the traditional arts of drawing, painting, ceramics and sculpture, and teach the student how to develop a professional art portfolio. In addition, we offer classes in photography and art history. The Art Business major is a unique program combining art, communication, and business classes. Students take classes in computer graphics, drawing, printmaking, mass communications, marketing, and advertising – just to name a few. Our Art Education program is Art PreK-12 with a teaching licensure in Virginia.
