Bluefield College Hosts Campus Safety Seminar (November 14, 2008)
|
|
As part of its efforts to continue to improve its campus safety and crisis management measures, Bluefield College recently hosted an Adverse Incident Mitigation and Management (AIMM) Seminar with officers from the Pentagon Police.
Featuring Pentagon Police lieutenants Bill and Sarah Legasse and their K-9 officer, Aldo, the four-hour AIMM Seminar covered various adverse incidents and involved participants in exercises and other working scenarios to facilitate interaction.
Participants included students in Bluefield College criminal justice classes, members of the BC Campus Security team, representatives from local law enforcement agencies, and members of other local college campus safety offices.
Using the lessons learned from the events of 9-11, the Pentagon Police officers addressed appropriate responses to adverse incidents and discussed the trend for police agencies to become homeland security forces. Sarah Legasse, a Bluefield College alumna, also offered a demonstration of bomb detection with her K-9, Aldo.
BC criminal justice professors Dr. Kelly Walls and Dr. Kim Farmer hosted the seminar.
