Throughout your time in college, you will have the chance to do things that you’ve never done before – meet new people, visit new places, engage in an area of study that will lead you to your life’s passion, and much, much more. However, one thing that a Christian college education will allow you to do is do broaden your faith. From weekly worship services to various Christian organizations to get involved in, college is a time to expand your horizons and find what God has truly called you to do.
While in the classroom, you will be sitting under professors that want to help you grow in your faith and understand what that faith means to you. God has given all of us different gifts that He wants us to use. A Christian college education will allow you to find those gifts and to see how you can use them to help others see Christ.
You’ll also meet peers that are in the same boat that you are. They’re new to the college experience and want to see what God has in store for them in this new stage of life. A Christian college environment allows you to connect with others like you so that you can walk through these years together. The book of Hebrews tells us, as Christians to, “let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works.” Being around other Christians throughout your time in college will allow you to “spur one another on” so that you can continue to do what God has called you to do.
Consider this: Studies have shown that as most college freshmen get to their college campuses, church attendance decreases dramatically. However, at a Christian college, you will be surrounded by like-minded people who want to see you grow and broaden your faith. You’ll be able to find a church you like (maybe even on campus) and get involved with people that want the same thing that you do: To broaden their faith and to find out what God has in store for them with their lives.
As you visit different colleges, take the time to discuss what the spiritual life looks like on campus. Attend a chapel service. Ask about the different Christian organizations that the school has for you to be involved in. You’ll soon find out that the faculty and staff at these colleges want to see you succeed, and not just in the classroom. They want to walk alongside you as you seek God and what His plan is for your life.
Please remember, above all, while going through the process of visiting colleges and finding out which one is the best fit for you, to pray. One of the most important things about the college search is finding the right fit. If you continue to seek Christ and talk with him, he will guide you to where he ultimately wants you to be.
