The Lady Rams were defeated 3-0 by the Lady Panthers of Ferrum College on Tuesday evening at the East River Soccer Complex.

Bluefield had an early chance in the 2nd minute when Kelby Dove played a perfect through ball over top of the Ferrum defense to Courtney Bell. Bell was immediately fouled just outside the 18-yard box, but the insuing free kick by Melissa Hubert went wide for the Lady Rams.

For the next twenty minutes, neither team had any real scoring threats until the 24th minute. For the second straight game, BC allowed its opponent to score off a dead-ball opportunity. LaQuinta Garrett served in a nice corner kick into the box, where freshman Megan Webb was on the end of it. Her strike found the back of the net giving Ferrum the 1-0 lead.

In the 30th minute, the Lady Panthers would strike again. F Kara Pegram played a one-two pass with her teammate, and finished the ball past the diving Muncy. The goal gave Ferrum a 2-0 first-half lead.

Both teams struggled in the second half to find rythym in their offensive thirds of the field. Ferrum would pick up the intensity with about 25 minutes to play. The Lady Panthers pushed numbers forward and had three clear opportunities. One of their chances, in the 70th minute, would result in another tally for FC. A poor clearance by the BC defense in the six-yard box left MF Amber Lynch with an easy 1v1 look on goal. GK Chelsea Hardy had no chance at point blank range and Ferrum would take a three-goal advantage with little time to play.

Bluefield did find some pressure in the final minutes of the match, but were unable to capitalize with a late goal.

"This was an extremely disappointing loss for us tonight. The match should have been much closer than it was. We must get back out on the training field tomorrow and put this result behind us", added head coach Samanatha Snow.

Bluefield will be back in action on Friday night when they travel to Georgia to face Piedmont. With the loss, the Lady Rams move to 0-7 overall and 0-1 in the AAC.
