Women’s Basketball Remains in National Top-5
Bluefield slips a spot to fifth in the NCCAA Women's Basketball Division I poll despite undefeated record last week.

BLUEFIELD, Va. -- Bluefield College women’s basketball team remained in the top-five of the NCCAA Women’s Basketball Division I Official Top-10 Rankings, the national office announced Tuesday.
Bluefield fell one spot to fifth despite a perfect 3-0 mark in the last week with wins over Virginia University of Lynchburg (86-59), Virginia Intermont (82-79), and a 40 point beat down of Allen (S.C.), 71-31. Fellow Mid-South Conference member Campbellsville (Ky.) moved up to second while Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) jumped from fifth to third and Cedarville (Ohio) slipped from second to fourth.
Indiana Wesleyan remains the top-ranked team with a Burbridge Power Ranking of 8.958 and a perfect 12-0 mark.
Campbellsville (8.500), Olivet Nazarene (8.150), Cedarville (7.938), and Bluefield (7.875) round out the top-five this week.
Last season Bluefield finished a program best 22-12 under Coach Melissa Baker and advanced to the NCCAA Division I National Tournament where they finished a program best sixth before falling to Emmanuel (Ga.).
After California Baptist fell from the fourth spot to seventh a week ago they rebounded and moved up to sixth with a 6-1 record, just .232 Burbridge Power Ranking points behind the Rams.
The Rams return to action on Saturday in the first Annual Hill City Classic at the Virginia University of Lynchburg against Newport News Apprentice School with a 2 p.m. tip. Bluefield will play the hosts VUL on Sunday at 4 p.m. The meeting against VUL is the second between the two teams in the last 12 days. Bluefield won the first contest at the Dome Gymnasium on Dec. 4, 86-59.
The next NCCAA Women’s Basketball Division I Official Top-10 Rankings is scheduled to be announced on Tuesday, Dec. 18.
