With winter kicking in strong on campus, movies are a popular place to turn between indoor study sessions. After asking around, here are some of the popular movies buzzing around the student body.

With winter kicking in strong on campus, movies are a popular place to turn between indoor study sessions. After asking around, here are some of the popular movies buzzing around the student body.
Coming in at number one is The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. The Hobbit came out on Dec. 14, 2012 and is considered to be an adventure fantasy movie.
“It told a good story,” said Rachel Cochran.
The Hobbit was directed by Peter Jackson and based on the book by J.R.R. Tolkien. It is currently rated 8.3 out of 10 on the frequently used website Internet Movie Data Base (IMDb). The Hobbit was also ranked number four for money made at the box office for 2012.
The number two movie is Les Misérables. It is currently rated 8 out of 10 on IMDb and comes in at number 20 for money made the box office. Les Misérables is considered a drama and romance movie while also being a musical.
The number three movie on campus is The Dark Knight Rises. Currently rated 8.7 out of 10 on IMDb, it came in at number two for money made at the box office. The Dark Knight Rises is an action and crime thriller movie and is the third of three Batman movies.
Number four on the top ten list of movies is Knight and Day, which came out in 2010 and is currently rated 6.3 out of 10 on IMDb. It is listed as an action and adventure comedy and it features Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz.
“It's a good action comedy romance,” said Renee Robbins.
Coming in at number five is the musical comedy romance Pitch Perfect. Pitch Perfect is currently rated 7.2 out of 10 on IMDb and came in at 48 in box offices last year. The movie was based on the book "Pitch Perfect" by Mickey Rapkin.
Number six on the unofficial Bluefield College top ten is the movie Silver Linings Playbook. Coming in at 40 for box office earnings, it is currently rated 8.1 out of 10 on IMDb. Silver Linings Playbook was directed and written by David O. Russell, based on the novel "The Silver Linings Playbook," written by Matthew Quick.
Number seven on the list is Lockout. Lockout is an action thriller and is currently rated 6.1 out of 10 on IMDb. Lockout was directed by James Math and Stephen St. Leger and stars Guy Pearce, Maggie Grace, and Peter Stormare.
Number eight is The Phantom of the Opera.This movie came out Jan. 21, 2005, andis currently rated 7.2 out of 10 on IMDb. It was based on the novel by Gaston Leroux and the book by Andrew Lloyd Webber. The Phantom of the Opera stars Gerard Butler, Emmy Rossum, and Patrick Wilson.
The action-packed number nine movie on the list is Braveheart, which came out back in 1995 but is still a crowd pleaser. It has a current score of 8.4 out of 10 on IMDb. It was directed by Mel Gibson, who also starred in it with Sophie Marceau and Patrick McGoohan.
Closing up the BC top 10 is the animated movie Despicable Me, a comedy crime movie starring Steve Carell, Jason Segel, and Russell Brand. It came out on July 9, 2010, and is currently rated 7.6 out of 10 on IMDb.
That wraps up the top 10 among students, but some may wonder about what the faculty and other well-known campus members have been watching.

David Taylor, vice president for student development, said his favorite movie right now is Man on a Ledge, whichcame out in 2012 and is currently rated 6.6 out of 10 on IMDb. Man on a Ledge was directed by Asger Leth and stars Sam Worthington, Elizabeth Banks, and Jamie Bell.
