Wilson Named NCCAA DI National Player of the Week

BLUEFIELD, Va. -- Bluefield College's Andrew Wilson collected his first honor of the season when National Christian College Athletic Association officials announced the Men’s Basketball Division I Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of November 17, 2012.
The Cucamonga, Calif.., sophomore guard averaged 25 points, 5.5 assists, 3.0 steals, and 3.0 rebounds per game last week as the Rams won a pair of Mid-South Conference games at home.
The 5-foot-7 graduate of Rancho High School was instrumental in the Rams' 96-89 upset of No. 3-ranked Georgetown College last Thursday. He scored 21 points -- including making a career-high five 3-pointers -- while finishing with three rebounds, five assists, and a steal in the win.
On Saturday, Wilson helped the Rams improve to 2-0 in the Mid-South Conference with an 84-74 win over visiting St. Catharine College. He ended the game with a career-high 29 points -- including making eight free throws -- while finishing with six assists and a career-high five steals.
For the week, Wilson shot 53.8 percent (14-of-24) from the floor while making 57.1 percent of his 14 3-point attempts.
This season, Wilson is ninth in the Mid-South and 44th in the NAIA averaging 17.25 points per game. He ranks sixth in the conference in 3-pointers made per game (2.5), and assists per game (4.5).
Bluefield's 3-1 start to the season is the best since 2007-08 when BC went 25-8 overall after opening a perfect 4-0. The Rams are tied atop the league standings with their 2-0 conference mark.
The next NCCAA Men's Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week award is scheduled to be announced on Tuesday, Nov. 27.
