Two Patrick Players Sign to Play for BC February 4, 2011 | RSS By: Staff Writers Mount Airy News STUART, Va. — Two Patrick County High School baseball players have signed letters of intent to play for Bluefield College next year. Two baseball players from Patrick County High School, Zach Sawyers, left, and Jody Martin, sign their letters of intent to play for Bluefield College next year. Seniors Zach Sawyers and Jody Martin, from nearby Ararat, signed their letters this week. Zack is the son of Annette and Dallas Sawyers, and Jody is the son of Jeff and Cametta Martin. Martin, a catcher, was an honorable mention for the Region IV all-region team last year. Bluefield won the National Christian College Athletic Association Division I World Series in 2009 and almost won back-to-back titles last May. The team was up 5-1 before losing in extra innings 7-6 to North Greenville University of South Carolina. Patrick County went 15-5-1 last season and was ranked 25th in the state in 2A. The team begins preseason play March 5 at home against Salem.
