Top Ranked Lindsey Wilson tops Rams By Rudy Roediger | September 19, 2012 | RSS COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Bluefield College men’s soccer team suffered a 7-0 Mid-South Conference defeat to No. 1 Lindsey Wilson College on Wednesday night at Walter S. Reuling Stadium. (Box) Lindsey Wilson (9-0-0, 5-0-0 MSC) the reigning NAIA National Champion remains top in the Mid-South Conference standings and the top ranked program in the nation with the victory. The loss drops Bluefield to 3-5-0 (0-2-0 MSC). The Rams held the nation’s top scoring team (41 goals) at bay for the opening 20 minutes before Sicelo Buthelezi netted the first of four first half goals. The Blue Raiders held a distinctive 11-5 edge in shots and corner kicks 6-0 through the opening 45 minutes. A quick strike less than a minute into the second half followed by a goal less than five minutes later pushed Lindsey Wilson’s lead to 6-0, but a fourth goal of the evening by the nation’s leading scorer, Philip Sandgren gave LWC it’s 32nd straight victory, 7-0. That span has included 20 shutouts including six of the nine games this season. Lindsey Wilson opened the season with back-to-back eight goal performances against Pikeville (Ky.) and St. Catharine (Ky.) in Mid-South play. On the season the Blue Raiders have outscored MSC opponents 29-1 through their first five games. Jefferson Watson made three saves while allowing four first half goals earning the loss while Justin Cook made four saves allowing three goals in the second half for the Rams. Yuta Nomura made one save earning the victory for LWC. Bluefield returns to action with a second straight road contest when they visit Columbia, S.C. for a Saturday, Sept. 22 non-league contest.
