Tennis Team Honored with Postseason Awards

Bluefield College's men's and women's tennis finished up their 2010 season this past week with a one-on-one meeting with Tennessee Wesleyan on Thursday and conference tournament on Friday.

Bluefield, VA-- Bluefield College's men's and women's tennis finished up their 2010 season this past week with a one-on-one meeting with Tennessee Wesleyan on Thursday and conference tournament on Friday.

 

On Thursday, both men's and women's tennis gave it their all but was playing a well grouped team in Tennessee Wesleyan. The women lost 1-6 and the men lost 0-9. With the conference tournament starting a day later, Bluefield College's tennis teams could not worry about what just happen, but instead get prepared for their first round match-ups.

 

The men's team opened conference tournament play against Milligan College. The men gave a valiant effort but came up short, losing 5-0 to Milligan. The women were up next, playing UVA-Wise. BC's women put up a fight till the end just coming up short, losing 5-1.

 

Both men's and women's tennis had some award winners for their play this season. The women's tennis team received Champions of Character by the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC). Celia Jones and De'Onna Darling both made All-Academic Team, and Julie Austin received a Sportsmanship Award Nomination. Award winner for the men's team was Evan Sherman with All-Academic Team honors and Sportsmanship Award Nomination.
