Summer Fine Arts Camps and Classes

Bluefield College’s Fine Arts Community School has released its schedule of courses for summer 2014 and featured on the schedule are three camps, three workshops, one class, and private lessons.

Dedicated to providing quality fine arts instruction to the community since 1993, BC’s Fine Arts Community School (FACS) is a community service outreach program that enables local families and students of all ages and interests, including home-schoolers, to explore and study the arts with the guidance of mentors and professionals who have appropriate training and experience.

 

Listed on the summer 2014 FACS schedule are a Math and Science Camp, a Fine Arts Camp, a Fine Arts Camp for Preschoolers, a Bead Weaving Workshop, an En Plein Aire Painting Workshop, a Basic Food Canning and Preservation Workshop, an Acrylic Paining Class, private piano lessons, and private voice lessons.


Acrylic Painting Classes
Learn how to begin and finish a painting. Explore color and various styles and techniques. A materials list will be provided prior to the start of class.
· Tuesdays 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
· June 17 – July 22 (six weeks)
· Tuition: $50
· Ages: 7-13

En Plein Aire Painting Workshop
En Plein Aire means to paint outdoors. Spend an afternoon painting outdoors on the BC campus in your choice of medium and in natural light.
· Sunday, June 22
· 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
· Tuition: $25
· Ages: all

Math and Science Camp
A week of adventure in math and science. Through games and projects, campers will learn mathematical series, basic operations, algebra, and rocketry, including egg-drop construction, fuel and propulsion, and rocket building. Bring your own lunch.
· June 23-26
· 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day (Monday – Thursday)
· Tuition: $110
· Ages: 8-12

Basic Food Canning and Preservation Workshop
Learn the basic steps of canning and preserving foods,including a step-by-step process of canning, the difference between pressure canners and water bath, high-acid and low-acid foods, recipes, and instructions for canning vegetables, fruits, and meat the proper way.

Fine Arts Camp
Students rotate through music, theatre, art and other fine arts instruction and activities all through the week culminating with a parent’s program on the final day. Bring your own lunch each day.
· July 14-18
· 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day (Monday – Friday)
· Tuition: $140
· Ages: rising second through rising eighth grade
· Instructors: various FACS teachers


Fine Arts Camp for Preschool, Kindergarten and Rising First Graders
Perfect for the active, energetic, creative and imaginative child. Each day, students rotate between art and music classes. Snack provided.
· July 14-18
· 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. each day (Monday – Friday)
· Tuition: $100
· Ages: 4-5 and rising first graders
· Instructors: various FACS teachers

 

Bead Weaving Workshop
Learn how to create different weaves with beads, beginning with a bracelet. A materials list will be provided prior to the start of class.

Private Voice Lessons
Private 30-minute voice lessons meeting once a week.
· Lesson times to be determined by instructor andstudent.
· Tuition: $190 (10-Week Session), $110 (5-Week Session)
· Ages: 5 and up

Private Piano Lessons
Private 30-minute piano lessons meeting once a week.
· Lesson times to be determined by instructor andstudent.
· Tuition: $190 (10-Week Session), $110 (5-Week Session)

A non-refundable $25 registration fee is due per student per class when registering for most BC Fine Arts Community School lessons and classes (but not workshops). If registering more than one person within a family, the registration fee is discounted to $15 per person.
In some cases, an additional supplies fee (i.e. art supplies) may be charged in addition to tuition. Tuition and fees are due by the start of instruction and may be mailed and made payable to Bluefield College, FACS, 3000 College Drive, Bluefield, VA 24605.
