The Bluefield College Department of Music will host its annual Spring Instrumental Music Concert, Thursday, April 7 at 7:30 p.m. in Harman Chapel, featuring the school's Jazz Ensemble and Concert Band.
Under the direction of Dr. Charles Priest, instructor of music, the two BC instrumental music groups will present a concert of classic and contemporary jazz, along with hymnsongs and futuristic concert works.
The Jazz Ensemble will play music from the Blues Brothers, including "Gimme Some Lovin'," "I'm a Soul Man," and "Sweet Home Chicago." The group will also play jazz classics and contemporary jazz works.
The Concert Band will perform "Variations on an African Hymnsong," an exciting Nigerian folk hymn with interesting harmonies, beautiful tone colors, and driving polyrhythms. The Concert Band will also play "Saturn: The Ringed Planet," an instrumental piece depicting a futuristic voyage to the sixth planet.
The Spring Instrumental Music Concert is open and free to the public. For more information, please call 276-326-4212 or email .
