Bluefield College’s Department of Music will conduct auditions for its Masterworks Chorale, Monday, September 4, and as always, community residents are encouraged to join with students as part of the college/community choir.

Directed by Dr. John Moir, director of choirs and voice for the BC Department of Music, Masterworks Chorale combines the talents of Bluefield College students and community singers in performing renowned classics of sacred and secular choral music. Interested singers are asked to schedule an appointment for a September 4 audition by contacting Dr. Moir by phone at 276-326-4258 or by email at .

“Masterworks grew from about 25 to almost 50 by year-end last season, and this year we are looking to grow yet again,” said Dr. Moir. “We strongly encourage men to audition for us -- a simple hymn is all that is needed -- but all voice types are encouraged to come sing.”

Following auditions, Masterworks will begin rehearsals in preparation for two concerts for the 2017-2018 BC Performing Arts Series: the traditional Christmas at Bluefield performance on December 1-2, 2017 and a spring concert, April 7, 2018. Rehearsals will be Monday evenings and some Thursdays from 7 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. in the lower level of Harman Chapel, room 103, and will continue through the group’s performances.

Membership in Masterworks is open to anyone with background in choral music. Prospective singers are not required to be affiliated with Bluefield College, but are encouraged to have familiarity with music notation.

“Masterworks Chorale is a great chance to build new friendships, span the generations, minister to the community, and have fun,” said Dr. Moir. “Please join us for this year’s productions.”
