The Bluefield College womens volleyball team has signed another recruit for the 2012 season with the addition of Haley Maddox, who has decided to further her education at Bluefield College and continue her volleyball career with the Lady Rams.
Maddox, a 5-foot-6 libero/ds from Vinton, Virginia, was a the defensive player of the year at William Byrd High Schoo in 2011l. Maddox, daughter of Dwayne and Patty Maddox, was a 2 year varsity starter and senior year team captain at William Byrd. Haley will be graduating early having gathered enough credits to graduate in only 3 years of high school. For her career Haley had 356 digs and 28 aces to go with 15 kills. Her single match record for digs is 32 which she recorded against Northside High School last September.
"We are excited that Haley is joining the Lady Rams volleyball program, said Bluefield College coach Brian Votaw, who is entering his second season as the head coach at Bluefield. She has an incredible range to cover floor and her serve receive is outstanding. Haley has worked hard to become a solid player and her passion for the game is visible during her play
"Haley is a rare find and we are fortunate to have her as it seemed we were at the right place at the right time to land Haley. She has prepared herself well by playing at a good high school and with two excellent clubs as she played for three years with the New River Valley Juniors and currently plays with Roanoke Unite Volleyball Club. We look forward to her contribution to our team while we build this program.
In addition to playing volleyball at William Byrd High School, Maddox volunteered at the homeless shelter and participated in the Relay for Life program.
"I chose Bluefield College because it has everything I need in a college said Maddox of her college choice. "Having the opportunity to room with a couple volleyball players on the team for an overnight visit really gave me the idea of what Bluefield would be like." "Volleyball also had a key role in choosing Bluefield College. Coach Votaw is a great coach and all the girls were very welcoming to me." "Not only were the players and coach welcoming, but anyone I crossed hoped to see me attend. I could not be anymore happier with my decision to attend Bluefield College and even more excited about signing with BC and becoming Lady Ram!"
Haley will join a loaded 2012 signing class for Coach Votaw as they prepare for the Mid-South Conference in the fall.
