The show, open and free to the community, will run from 8:00 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, in the BC Art Gallery on the first floor of Lansdell Hall. The reception will take place Saturday, April 13 from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., also in the BC Art Gallery in Lansdell Hall.
Natives of Atlanta, Georgia, the Shroyers met while working on their bachelor’s degrees in fine arts at the University of Georgia. They moved to Bluefield in 1991, where Walter took a teaching position in art at Bluefield College.
Their exhibit at BC will be a sampling of artwork that they have produced in the Bluefield area over the last 22 years. Walter will exhibit oil paintings inspired by the caves and rock formations in the area, prints inspired by landscapes encountered while hiking the Appalachian Trail, and watercolors based on his family. Linda will exhibit watercolors and mixed media based on imaginative narratives and a series of work she created after being diagnosed with breast cancer.
The Shroyer show and reception on April 13 will be a part of Bluefield College’s Appalachian Festival, a daylong celebration of Appalachia featuring bluegrass music, craft sales and demonstrations, book sales and signings, art sales and shows, food vendors, storytelling and other demonstrations (turkey calling, squarefoot gardening, fly fishing, and more).
“It should be a wonderful day for the family to celebrate Appalachia,” said BC festival coordinator Brenda Workman. “Bring your camping chairs and stay for the day.”
