Bluefield College’s 19th Annual Media Appreciation Luncheon and Shott Excellence in Media Awards Program will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. in Shott Hall Rooms A & B on Bluefield College’s campus. The annual event is held to pay tribute to local media professionals in the two Virginia’s and will include media recognition, an awards ceremony, and a media-student roundtable discussion. Jason “Moose” Reed will deliver the keynote address for the event.

Reed started his professional radio career in commercial radio working part-time at L&P Broadcasting in Princeton in 1998. He was a part of the launch of a new CHR station in the area, Star 95, in March of 1999. Reed later became Program Director and earned the nickname “Moose” while working full time on-the-air. Reed hosted “The Moose Radio Network” night show and later hosted afternoons on Star 95. He was on-the-air for more than eleven years in Princeton.

Reed left L&P Broadcasting in the fall of 2009 to become the Director of Operations at West Virginia-Virginia Media, which is now First Media Services. He assisted station owner Bob Spencer in launching new stations in the Bluefield, West Virginia market, including Willie 94.5 and Mix 102.9, as well as KISS FM in the greater Beckley area. Reed is currently the morning show host of “The Morning Mix” on Mix 102.9 and afternoon jock on 92.7 KISS FM. He's actively involved in sales, promotions, production, and community life, as well as sports broadcasting on the NCAA Division II level.

Reed has also won a number of state broadcasting awards, including station of the year awards as the program director of multiple stations, special recognition from President George W. Bush for his service to the 1st 150th Army National Guard while the troops were stationed overseas, and is the three-time “Personality of the Year” award recipient from the West Virginia Broadcaster's Association. He currently serves as the Princeton-Mercer County Chamber of Commerce board chairman and is on the joint committee for the merger of the two local chambers. He's also on the Mercer County Convention and Visitor's Bureau tourism board.

“We are delighted that Jason Reed has agreed be our guest speaker for this year’s Media Day.  We  also continue to be appreciative that media entrepreneur Michael Shott provides the funds to underwrite Media Day and the Shott Excellence in Media Awards Program each year so that Bluefield College can recognize the outstanding media professionals in the two Virginia’s,” said Lindsey Akers, Bluefield College’s newly appointed Director of Marketing and Public Relations.
