Rams Win Series; Drop Final Game

Bluefield, VA—The Bluefield College Rams swept the series against Southern Wesleyan University despite losing the final game 6-4 on Monday afternoon in South Carolina.
Andrew Weaver had two RBI's in the loss against Southern Wesleyan.
The Rams who swept the double header games on Saturday afternoon, had a day of rest of Sunday to hit the field on Monday for the final game in the series. The Rams started junior pitcher Eli Smurthwaite who completed 4.15 innings for the Rams compiling one earned run, one walk, and one strikeout.
The Rams got their first one in the game in the top of the second inning with a homer to left field by senior Andrew Weaver. Following behind Weaver in scoring was Kyle Cabral who scored a run for the Rams in the top of the third off an Andrew Dickerson hit. The top of the seventh and the top of the eighth was busy for the Rams with the senior Weaver who adding on another run and junior catcher Andrew Dickerson who added on the final run for the Rams.
Smurthwaite was the only Ram pitcher who saw any lengthy amount of time on the mound. Taking over for Smurthwaite was Eliezer Cordero who took over pitching duties for the Rams in the bottom of the fifth inning. Cordero pitched over a solid inning (1.02) allowing two earned runs and one walk in the six total batters he faced.
Cordero was replaced by Mike Newton in the bottom of the sixth; Newton got the Rams out of the inning without further damage in the scoring department. Newton faced three batters and had eleven total pitches.
Replacing Newton in the bottom of the seventh was Ethan Lewis who pitched to three batters and was relieved by Taylor Marshall. Marshall had one walk and two strike-outs in the five players he pitched to. Closing out the game for the Rams was senior Joey Andrews who pitched to one player and earning the strike- out for the Rams.
Getting the win for SWU was Daniel Baxley and Tim Cummings earned the save for SWU. The final numbers for the Rams were four runs, 10 hits, and five errors.
The Rams will play a three game series against Shorter College in Rome, Georgia. The Rams will play a double header with the team on February 12 with a first pitch scheduled for 1:00 pm and then close out the series on February 13 with the final game scheduled to start at 1:00 pm.
